The Cateran Trail is named after the ‘Caterans’ who were cattle rustlers in the 15th ‘til the 17th centuries. These well armed ruffians lain in wait along the drove roads to steal from the drovers as they moved their cattle through the Highlands.
Well signposted route
Cruachan is ideally placed in Kirkmichael, on the Strathardle section, for an overnight stop before venturing onwards.

If you would like to stay two nights then we will pick you up from your nominated point and drop you back there the following morning. Advantages being you don’t have to carry your heavy pack.

Drying facilities are available and also dinners and packed lunches - everything to make your walk pleasurable.

We are open all year so enjoy the Cateran Trial whatever the season.

Perthshire’s circular, long distance, walk re-tracing the footsteps of Scotland’s Highland Cattle Rustlers
The trail can be undertaken in 4 or 5 easy stages or visit the area several times and walk a different section each time. Whichever way you choose you can be assured of stunning scenery.
